Fisheries University conducts a training program on “Vannamei shrimp culture using Biofloc Technology”

Fisheries College and Research Institute, Ponneri, a constituent unit of Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University in Tamil Nadu, successfully conducted a farmers training program sponsored by National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) on Vannamei Shrimp culture using Biofloc technology from 12-14 March, 2018 at the Advanced Research Farm Facility in Madhavaram. Fifty farmers from different states of India such as Tamil Nadu, Pune, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala represented this training programme as the event was graced by National and International speakers for the deliberations.

The welcome address was delivered by the dean of college, Dr.B.Ahilan while Prof. S. Felix, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, honored NFDB Chief executive with a shawl and memento. Certificates to the participants were distributed by NFDB Chief Executive,Ms. I. Rani Kumidini, IAS. She delivered a Chief Guest address on emphasizing the importance of biofloc technology in the water scarce states of India for a profitable shrimp and fish production in near future.She also congratulated the TNJFU’s lead in disseminating the advanced culture technologies to the Indian farmers.Prof.S.Felix accorded his gratitude for rending the financial support for the training program and his felicitation address urged the farmers to get connected with the university training programmes for the technical upgradation and advancements in aquaculture sector.He also released the brochure of “Advanced Research Farm Facility” and the same was received by Ms. I. Rani Kumidini, IAS,Chief Executive, NFDB. During this event, practical manual on Standard Management Practices for Shrimp farming and Farmer friendly handbook on Aquaculture were released for benefit of the farmer community. Dr. B. Ahilan facilitated the event and Dr. A. Gopalakannan, program co-ordinator of this training program thanked all the participants for their efforts and contribution in transforming this training program into a fruitful journey.
