HCAS, Chennai organises a series of live webinars

HCAS School of Life Sciences Department of Biotechnology organized five webinar series the past month and a half. It is said, acquiring and spreading knowledge can’t be restricted under any situation and the Covid-19 pandemic actually paved way for the academicians to find out newer and wider ways to connect students and subject experts to disseminate knowledge. The Department of Biotechnology, Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Padur, Chennai, has organized Five Live Webinars with eminent resource persons and prominent alumni of the Institution.  The participants attended the webinar by joining via Zoom webinar links which is circulated in advance through whatsapp and e – certificates are issued to the participants.

The glimpse of events follows on May 4th Dr Andrea Mary, Faculty, Department of Genetics, Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai gave her talk on the topic “Non Invasive Prenatal Screening for Fetal Anueploidies and Inborn Errors of Metabolism”. The most vital part of prenatal care is preventive medicine. The lecture deals with Noninvasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) which is used for detecting the risk of fetus will be born with certain genetic abnormalities and metabolism related defects with ample no of cases undergone the NIPT test.

On May 5th Mrs Mathura Valli K, Women Scientist A from DR ALM Instiute of Basic Medical Science and alumnus of our department has given her lecture on “Recent Advanced Techniques in Molecular Biology”. The speaker explained in detail about PCR, RT-PCR, Microarray, CHIP and its types, how it is used in testing COVID – 19 daignosis. The webinar is supported with PowerPoint presentation and animated videos for the attendees.

The webinar on Mental Health during Lockdown was held on 12th May by Pooja S Pillai, Project Manager, Project Burans, Emmanuel Hospital Association, Dehradun.  The keypoints of the session is about frustration, anxiety and depression during lockdown and how to overcome those obstacles by creating positivity around us.

On may 25th  Dr. Yuvaraj Ravikumar, Post- Doctoral Fellow, Food and Biological Engineering Lab, Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang -212013, PR China. The guest speaker talked on the topic “RT-PCR : A Powerful Diagnostic Tool for Detecting Infectious  COVID -19”. He discussed about COVID -19, diagnosis methods followed in the treatment, PCR and its applications and steps involved in RT-PCR.

The webinar held on May 30th on the “Medical Writing” as a Career by Dr. Lilly Anne Devasia, Senior Medical Writer, HCL Technologies Ltd. Chennai. The webinar in nutshell has what is medical writing? How to choose Medical Writer as professsion and its scope and the session set eyeopener for the students about wide job opportunities available in the field.  

The participants from many colleges across the nation and some from across the country attended the webinar programs. End of all the sessions the queries asked from participant end were clarified.
