HCAS School of Media Studies hosts webinar on cinematography

HCAS School of Media Studies Chennai, hosted a webinar on cinematography on 5/6/2020.

HCAS School of Media Studies hosted a webinar on cinematography and K.T. Balasubramaniam was the speaker. He was trained with PC Sree ram who is famous for Nayagan Tamil’s movie and worked in cinematography in Kuruthi Punal Devar Magan Thiruda Thiruda.

Mr. Ebi Raj HOD Department of Electronic Media  Co-ordinated the webinar, faculties of media studies, various colleges and
media students about 50 participated.

Mr. Balasubramaniam started in cinematography under PC Shriram and made 3 films with Kamal Hassan 32 movies in all many are commercially successful ones

He says in analog or manual movie-making everything is under control and in Digital one can see in monitor and it is good He explained lighting techniques and how it goes with cinematography Photography and cinematography have some differences and principles may be same.

The director plays a role in deciding lighting techniques to be used in a film and it also depends on a story and the cameraman plays a role also. The storyboard is also there and
we have to discuss everything with director including framing shots

He spoke of styles and tones of movies mentioning different styles including that of Balu Mahendra landscape style mentioning color in movies, He spoke of three famous cinematographers PC Shri Ram Santosh and Balu Mahendra.

He also spoke of Digital cameras high-speed lenses and said of 5 D films and DI DI is important for films and spoke of Azhagiya Tamil Magan

He answered questions on tones and he said that got to be in festival mood colorful with yellow and green colors and Praised
Vijay Saravanan’s acting and spoke of Vaseegara tone, depending on story songs and others

He spoke of 180 movies the first film in digital mode and shooting in 3 layered formats and spoke of high-speed songs and
different frames as 1500 or 24 and also said of desaturation in movies

He says, “we cannot do it alone Costumes are important.” He said, Pithamagan movie is the one he liked most for cinematography He also saw Iranian movie and Turkish film and liked them

He is doing some work for Color Tamil channel and said the mood shifts director audience and cinematography of movies are important.

He also said of OTT format and he liked Director Bala as a leading director and said of VFX cinematography as normal cinematography as it is important and Virtual Reality (V.R.) is there

Finally, he spoke students should aim to work hard and ready for the struggle to shine in cinematography in film making Mr, Ebiraj HOD Dept of EM proposed a vote of thanks thanking all participants who filled in a feedback form as program
ended.
