Following in the footsteps of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, BSP supremo Mayawati questioned the Uttar Pradesh police’s claim of capturing two Al Qaeda-linked terrorists in the state capital on Monday, saying such an action before of assembly elections causes people to have concerns. If the UP police’s claims of busting a terrorist plot in Lucknow and the arrest of two people with ties to Al Qaeda are true, it’s a very serious matter that should be dealt with appropriately, but no politics should be played in its guise, as such apprehension has been expressed,” she tweeted in Hindi.

The previous chief minister brought up the question of the arrests’ timing. “Only when the UP-Assembly elections are near does this type of action raise concerns in people’s minds. If there is any truth to this motion, why have the cops been so blind (to such activities) for so long? “This is the question that the people are asking. As a result, the administration should refrain from taking any actions that exacerbate public unrest,” she added in another tweet. On Sunday, the UP Police Anti-Terrorist Squad announced the arrest of two terrorists from the Al-Qaeda-backed ‘Ansar Ghazwatul Hind’ on the outskirts of Lucknow. They were also found to have explosive ingredients on them.

On the arrests on Sunday, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said, “We cannot rely on Uttar Pradesh police, especially the BJP administration.” Swatantra Dev Singh, the BJP’s state unit president, slammed Akhilesh Yadav’s comments, questioning whether the SP head was more concerned with national security or appeasement politics.

Which nation are you representing? With a video of Yadav’s words, Singh remarked on Twitter that “this topic is on everyone’s mind today. “Instead of celebrating this achievement, the former chief minister has made the Uttar Pradesh Police force seem bad by asking doubts. He said that Akhileshji should say whether the country’s security or appeasement politics are more important to him.
