The killing of a wild elephant in the Palakkad district of Kerala leads to nationwide outrage. The culprits won’t be spared said the Kerala’s Chief Minister himself.

The incident took place on 25th May when a pregnant elephant entered the district in search of food and ate a pineapple which was stuffed with explosives which exploded in her mouth.

The Forest Department, as soon as the incident rose, came and tried to rescue the elephant but in vain. The elephant kept standing in the water for three days with a broken jaw and eventually died there on the 27th of May with a baby elephant dying in her womb too.

The incident led to an outrage in the entire nation as soon as it came into attention.

Though the explosives weren’t fed intentionally, the elephant accidentally ate the explosives snare that was kept to ward off the wild boars to protect the crops, though that’s illegal using explosives for that too.

Both the police and forest department have registered cases and are investing in it.

Meanwhile, Humane Society International-India (HSI), an organization working against animal cruelty, on Wednesday offered Rs 50,000 to anyone who would help in bringing the culprits to the note.

The preliminary post-mortem report was revealed and stated that “the animal died as a result of drowning.

This was followed by inhalation of water that led to lung failure which has been identified as the immediate cause of death”.Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar also took note of the elephant’s death.

In a tweet, the Union Minister said “Central Government has taken a very serious note of the killing of an elephant” in Malappuram, Kerala. We will not leave any stone unturned to investigate and nab the culprit(s).

Nature consists of humans and animals. To maintain balance we are continuously making efforts to avoid conflicts. It becomes the primary responsibility to the people to take care of nature.
