Nobel laureate to speak on ‘Doing Economics in the 21st Century’

Nobel laureate Professor Richard H. Thaler will will deliver second edition of Professor Amitava Bose Memorial Lecture on ‘Doing Economics in the 21st Century.’

Indian Institute of Management (Calcutta) will host the lecture on 13 January. The event will begin with a brief presentation about late Professor Amitava Bose. Professor Anju Seth, Director of IIM‐Calcutta will welcome the gathering and the lecture by nobel laureate will follow soon.

Professor Richard  Thaler is the Charles R. Walgreen Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

He was the 2017 recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to behavioral economics. Professor Thaler studies behavioral economics and finance as well as the psychology of decision‐making, which encompasses both, economics and psychology.

He investigates the implications of relaxing the standard economic assumption that everyone in the economy is rational and selfish, instead entertaining the possibility that some of the agents in the economy are sometimes human.

The Amitava Bose lecture series was initiated in 2019 to carry forward the legacy of Professor Amitava Bose. He was a renowned economics Professor at IIM Calcutta. He served as director of IIM Calcutta from June 1997 to September 2002. The initiative aimed to pay tribute to Bose and his immense contribution to IIM Calcutta.
