Govt schools in Chennai get science centres

A few government schools in Chennai have a reason to celebrate, thanks to Airport Authority of India (AAI). AAI has set up mini-science centres (MSCs) in five selected government schools in the vicinity of Chennai airport in association with Samabhavana, an NGO. The effort was taken up by AAI as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme.

Municipal Higher Secondary School at Tambaram, Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Chromepet, Government Municipal Higher Secondary School at Hasthinapuram, Government High School at Lakshmipuram at Chromepet Government High School at , Cowl Bazar are the schools where the centres were established.

According to sources, the MSCs  equipped in schools were inaugurated by S. Sreekumar, Director, Chennai airport on 23 and 24 July. The project executed was worth Rs. 35.68 lakhs aims at improving the quality of education (STEM Learning-Science,Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) by imparting training to teachers and then for continuous evaluation.

These are said to largely benefit underprivileged school children. MSCs simplify fundamental science concepts for students with demonstrative methods while also imparting quality and inquisitiveness in them and their curriculum. 

STEM Learning was conceptualised with an aim to empower underprivileged children in rural India with the basic concepts of the STEM.
