The shopping habits of residents in the travancore region comprising of Thiruvantapuram and the Kanyakumari districts are witnessing a tectonic shift, owing to the covid19 pandemic.

Many of the housewives, traditionally used to travelling in cars to the major grocery stores are resorting to home deliveries through online ordering.

Several major as well as mid level grocery stores have initiated online delivery of groceries through their websites to help the masses tide over the crisis.

Deepika Sebastian, a techie and mother of three, says that she orders all her groceries through online and even informs the delivery staff to leave the parcel at the doorstop to avoid contact.

With great emphasis being laid on social distancing, online grocery shopping has become a huge hit and numerous big grocery stores are raking in the moolah as they receive scores of orders everyday.
The recent findings that dealing with hard cash leads to the spread of Corona infection has further enhanced the appeal of the online shopping spree.

Slightly left behind in this game is the small scale grocery shops as many of them don’t have online cash transaction facility, and have very few staff to do the deliveries.

Grocery stores from the suburban localities of Travancore like Parassala, Balaramapuram, Neyyatinkara are also slowly but steadily going the online way, though some of the customers are reluctant to use technology to shop due to hoax stories of online frauds etc.

Residents of Thuckalay, in Kanyakumari district, turn to the local autos for the delivery even as they place their orders to the grocery stores through social media like Hike, Line etc.Well, all said and done, every calamity brings with it an opportunity and the smart are those who grab it with both hands.
