The OnePlus Nord 2 is scheduled to be released on July 22nd. CEO Pete Lau spoke about the company’s future ambitions for the popular midrange series before the launch. According to Lau, OnePlus plans to sell 25 million Nord smartphones by 2023. According to reports, OnePlus released its first Nord smartphone in July of last year and has since sold over one million Nord devices. Lau also discussed OnePlus’ recent partnership with Oppo and how the firm can assist its users have a better experience.

In an interview with Forbes ahead of the anticipated global debut of the OnePlus Nord 2, Lau stated that the firm expects sales of OnePlus Nord devices — which includes the recently introduced OnePlus Nord CE 5G in India in addition to the original OnePlus Nord — to exceed 25 million units. Outside of India, OnePlus also sells the OnePlus Nord N200 5G, OnePlus Nord N100, and OnePlus Nord N10 5G. The goal is to sell 24 million devices in the next two years, which seems ambitious given that over a million OnePlus Nord units have been sold in roughly a year after the first Nord was released, according to Forbes.

According to market research firm Counterpoint, OnePlus’ performance in India so far has seen a 300 percent year-on-year increase in the first quarter of 2021, led by demand for the OnePlus Nord. During the conversation, Lau expressed his confidence in the OnePlus Nord family’s future potential.

When OnePlus first entered the market, it had a single phone that challenged the status quo and continued to do so for a few years. The trademark eventually became a part of the establishment itself. Following premium handsets, the business now has a variety of mid-range smartphones under the Nord series, which it is focusing on in order to reach a broader set of people and help the company expand its footprints.

The mid-range smartphone industry is fiercely competitive and extremely price-sensitive, with buyers scrutinising the characteristics of a high-end gadget. It will be fascinating to watch how OnePlus manages to deploy 25 million Nord series phones by 2023.
