The passenger fare in ‘ordinary-non-AC’ classes of Indian Railways have been marginally increased by 01 paise per passenger kilometre.

The increase in fare will be on tickets bought on or after 1 January 2020 and no excess fare (difference of fare) will be charged from passengers who have booked tickets before 1 January 2020.

The passenger fare has witnessed a marginal increase in the Indian Railways and Southern Railway is no exception.

Sources say the passenger fares have been hiked marginally to give room to expand passenger amenities and facilities at various railway stations and trains.

However, sources stress that the fares have been marginally increased
without over burdening any class of passengers.
Passenger fare in non-AC classes of Mail/Express trains wentup by 02 paise per passenger kilometre and passenger charges increased by 04 paise per passenger kilometre in AC classes.

There is no increase in passenger fare in suburban fare season tickets. Fast modernization of Indian Railway will be achieved through this fare revision.

Accordingly, Railways has decided to marginally affect an increase in fare only over the non-suburban sections. Keeping the affordability concerns of daily commuters, there shall be no fare hike for passengers over suburban sections and season ticket holders.

This class constitutes 66% of total passenger segment over Indian railways. Even for the passengers traveling in Ordinary Non AC Classes, there shall be a marginal increase of 1 paise per Passenger Kilometre (PKM).
