IIT-M to collaborate with STL for 5G advancements in India

Sertlite Technologies Limited |(STL), a global data networks innovator signed an Memorandum-of-Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) for sponsoring a chair professorship in 5G. Sources point out that, both the organisations will work for research and advancing 5G technologies in India as per the MoU.

The chair occupant will be a full-time institute faculty and will be indentified through institute’s comprehensive review and selection process. Announcement of the first occupant of Chair professorship will be made in first quarter of 2020. Chair occupant will be working for speeding up the advacements in 5G by unifying IIT-Madras’s research and domain knowldege with STL’s industry expertise in 5G and end-to-end network connectivity.


The pact was signed in the presence of Professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi, director, IIT-M. Dr Badri Gomatam, Group CTO, STL said we are entering into the era of 5G connectivity and we need to make the most of it. STL and IIT-Madras will realise the enormous potential of 5G for customers and industry in India and global markets through this pact. Professor David Koilpillai, head, department of Electrical Engineering, IIT-M said the chair professorship will be instrumental in enabling their department to undertake cutting edge research in communication technologies, both fundamental RandD and translational projects.

The initiative will play a critical role in boosting innovation and developing young talent in the 5G domain. With industry and academia coming together, this collaboration can be a corner stone in discovering unique oppurtunities and making industrial relevance more prominent in academic research.
