S Rly proves its mettle on the sports front

Southern Railway has again proved that it stands second to none in winning laurels on the sports arena. The prestigious establishment has won overall championship in the 55th All India Inter-Railway Badminton Tournament.

Tournament was held at Railway Stadium at Perambur in Chennai and six teams from various zones of Indian Railways took part in it. South Central Railway were runners-up followed by Integral Coach Factory (ICF).

Winning teams received their prizes from John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway. He is also the president of Southern Railway Sports Association (SRSA).

It is interesting to note that Southern Railway has lot of achievements on the sports front during 2019. Southern Railway personnel Ms. Minimol Abraham and Ms. M.S.Poornima won Gold in Volleyball during SAF Games held in Khatmandu in December this year.

Manu Joseph, volleyball player of Southern Railway was in the gold winning team at USIC(World Railway Games) that took place at  Albena (Bulgaria) in August this year. When it comes to athletics at Trutnov (Chez Republic) Ms. Chandralekha won gold in 100m and 200m. Ms. Chavi sharawath won silver in 100m, 200m and 400m.

Southern Railway ace athlete Ms. P.U. Chitra won gold in 1500m at the Asian Athletic Championships at Doha in April this year and Nexit General Invitation Athletic Championships at Netherlands in June 2019 and Folksam Grand Prix Athletic Championships, Sweden in June this year.

Southern Railway bodybuilders E.Karthick (85kg) and R.Satish Kumar (75kg) won bronze medals at World Bodybuilding Championships at Jegu Island in Korea in November this year.
