Chennai school students to fly to NASA

Eight students from schools run by the Greater Chennai Corporation, are going to experience how NASA works. These eight students are emerged winners in an elocution contest, will be flying to the United States for the first time, where they are scheduled to visit NASA. The eight students are Aadhavan, Gopinath, Kaviyanjali, Reshmakumari, Prema, Rajkumar, Subash.J and Yogesh G. They were honoured by corporation commissioner D Karthikeyan and deputy commissioner (education) Mageswari Ravikumar.

These young ones emerged triumphant in ‘Wings to Fly’ Elocution Competition, conducted exclusively for Corporation school students by the civic body in association with the Rotary Club of Madras East.

Magesh Pattabhiraman, chairman, Wings to Fly, said in a statement: “It was a very emotional moment for the winners and also all others who were delighted and surprised at the fact that all the eight students will be going abroad for the first time in their life.”

B S Purshotham, President, RCME, said, “Wings To Fly is a project, initiated three years ago by the RCME, which was planned with the Chennai Corporation school children in mind. The purpose of this project is to attract the attention of children and for them  to understand that there is a much larger and bigger world available out there, full of opportunities for them”.
