HCAS 21st Graduation Day

The ceremony was started with the procession of the graduates led by Chief Guest, Mr. Vadivelu Krishnamurthy, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Chairperson Dr. Mrs Elizabeth Verghese, Director Susan Marthandan, Deputy Director of Academics, V.J. Phillip, Principal Dr. S.Thirumagan, Vice Principal Mr. Samuel Sampath Kumar, Deans and HODs of all departments. Followed by prayers Thamiz Thai Vazthu and thanksgiving songs.

The welcome address was delivered by the Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan who welcomed the chief guest and school’s officials. He said that chief guest was an Arts graduate of Sri Lanka and the chairperson who worked in Highways Department of Tamil Nadu and said that Dr. Elizabeth Verghese and husband Dr. KCG Verghese were behind the success of Hindustan Group. He also mentioned about the cash award of 100,000 rupees to the first two rank holders that will be given and mentioned Dr. Susan Marthandan being “a doctor with a busy eye” behind the success of HCAS and Dr. V. J. Phillip too is the man behind the development and lastly, the Principal welcomed the Deans and HODs and presented academic report of the college.

Dr. Elizabeth Verghese who declared the opening of the ceremony earlier said in her presidential address that she’s happy to be present as it is an exciting and joyous occasion and her three years of education just not ends and you have to continue education also in your pursuits further. Education is a life long process you have to upgrade knowledge and skills all times. Science and technology has developed fast and it is a thrill to see so many students who graduates and mastered exams and enjoyed campus life and now, it is time of professional career and you must develop civic sense, she said. She advised not to hooked to cell phones and be culture oriented as movies promote that. She studied engineering 60 years ago and she learnt more when she went on the job and stressed need to update skills all the time as sciences and technology developing faster and she spoke of alumni role in her group including KCG College of Technology, as this group’s alumni came from as far as Nepal and somewhere else.

Dr. Susan Marthandan in her introduction to the Chief Guest said that the parents must be proud of their wards and HCAS is approaching 25th year of Silver Jubilee celebrations and said, we have so many ranks and 520 graduates are getting degrees today and it is a happy moment. The Chief guest Mr. V.Krishna Murthy is Arts graduate of Sri Lanka and went on to study in Monash University in Australia served in Kenya Saudi Arabia Beijing China occupied higher posts before becoming deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for South India she said.

The Chief Guest Mr. V. Krishna Murthy in his speech that the pleasure to be here during the 21st graduation ceremony said that many skills the graduates got to learn and it is his first address to graduation ceremony although he had been to many college and one must learn culture and creativity, education is lifelong learning as Nelson Mandela has said “education is the most powerful weapon”. And getting degree is not enough Innovation and creativity that one got to be learned. Today’s complex world where science and technology have developed, education is needed to with a stand challenges and wished success to new graduates as he ended.

The Chief guest and chairperson and other dignitaries distributed certificates to rank holders first and then to all graduates. The principal Dr. S .Thirumagan read out pledge followed by blessing song and Dr.Elizabeth Verghese ended the graduation ceremony followed by the National Anthem and Recession procession.
