Students show solution for industry problems

Solutions for problems bothering our industries can come from anywhere. College campuses are not an exemption to this. This was evident at the campus of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) which witnessed students working hard to build solutions to real-time problems bothering our industries. This is a part of the five day competition ‘Smart India Hackathon- Hardware Edition (2019).’

Starting on July 8, the next five days students will build solutions for issues bothering the industry, the experts will evaluate the solutions and reward the best efforts. 

Speaking at the inauguration of the competition earlier High Commissioner of Namibia, Gabriel P. Sinimbo said the hackathon competition was very impressive and would be a model for Namibia to follow with the participation of Namibian Ministries of Higher Education and Technology, Trade,  Industrialization. 

He stressed for fostering collaboration between both the nations. Partnership between India and Namibia would be helpful in organising an event like hackathon, he said. 

The competition is being organised by Union Ministry of Human Resources Development in association with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Inter Institutional Inclusive Innovations Center (i4c) and Persistent Systems. i4c is an independent, non-profit entity all set to identify people from India with innovative ideas, said Anand Kumar, convenor, SIIC. 

The competition is being held at 18 nodal centres across the nation. About 10 teams are participating in each centre. At SRMIST, student teams were working solutions on problems presented by Apollo Hospitals, Aurobindo Pharma, Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Ltd. and Hindustan Unilever.  

The prelims round of this contest was held from 2 to 3 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also interacted with the students through webcasting. About 250 teams of 178 colleges across the country are taking part in the finals.
