University Day at VIT Chennai

Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai celebrated its “University Day” on 2nd April 2019, marking it as a day to celebrate accomplishments; a moment to come together and set milestones.

The event was presided over by Dr.G.Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor, VIT. In his presidential address he congratulated the students on their remarkable achievements and commended the sincerity and commitment of the faculty as well. He opined that availability, affordability and quality are the three important factors to be taken into consideration in higher education.

The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Robert G. Burgess, Honourable U.S. Consul General, Chennai. In his address, he commended all the award winners. He said, it delighted him to see so many achievements of very high calibre both from students and professors. He appreciated the way the Founder and Chancellor, VIT Dr. G. Viswanathan, bridged the gap between cultural and business ties. He applauded him for being the President of Friends of United States, who believed in people to people relationship. This was made possible only because of the hardwork and commitment of the Chancellor. He pointed out to the students that investing in education will help them face challenges and solid education will help them succeed. VIT has many tie-ups with the U.S. Consul in way of entrepreneurships, hosting cybersecurity hackathons and organising talks on intellectual property rights leading to several panel discussions. He asked the students and faculty to make use of several scholarships and sponsorships available in the United States and one such was the Fullbright Scholarship.

The Guest of Honour Mr. AbhayaSrisrimal Jain,Chairman, LifeCell International Pvt. Ltd. began his address by congratulating the students and the faculty on their academic achievements in an ambience par excellence on this green campus awarded environment. According to him,he was glad to see VIT focussing on researches.

Mr. G.V. Selvam, Vice President, stated that VIT always puts its students at the centre of all its academic and extracurricular activities. He advised the students to be more self-reliant and responsible. Their most important duty is to give back to society.

VIT Chennai Award categories were 23 in number and around 977 awards, certificates, trophies and cash prizes to the tune of Rs.50 lakhs were given for exemplary service, significant contribution to teaching and research, stupendous achievements in academics as well as extracurricular activities for students, faculty and staff.

Mr.Gagandeep Singh was the proud recipient of GV Special Achiever Award comprising a gold medal and a cash prize worth R. 15,000/-. The Best Outgoing Student award was given to Mr.Vikas Yadav and Ms.Shruty Balajiamong under Undergraduate students and Mr.Sreenath T and Ms.Sowmya N. amongst Post graduate students. The Best Achiever Award went to Mr.Ishank Saxena, Ms.Niranchana R., Ms.Mehazin Shaju and Mr.Sehrish Amin in the undergraduate category and Mr.Pranavnath G and Ms.Adyasree Prakriti Sivakumar. The trophy for Best Sportsperson was bagged by Mr.Dhanush Kumar C. and Mr. Dinesh N.P. CTS Award for Student was given to Mr.Aman Hussain. Research Awards were given to both faculty and the research scholars for their outstanding research outputs. The Fine Arts Club bagged the Best Recreational Club Award this year along with Robotics Club as the Best Professional Club and NSS as the Best Social Club for their exemplary talent and dedication.
