Only 31% of teachers believe science education in their country fit for future: oxford university Press survey

According to the oxford university press survey, only 31% science teachers from 22 countries believe that science education in their country is fit for the future.

Science is about seeking evidence before acceptance, and it’s about accepting the truth. Science generates solutions for everyday life and as per the ‘Evolution of Science Education’ survey, 66 percent of teachers, however, believe that the current science education helps us to become scientifically literate and active citizens. Because science helps us to answer the great mysteries of the universe. In other words, science is one of the most important channels of knowledge. It has a specific role, as well as a variety of functions for the benefit of our society: creating new knowledge, improving education, and increasing the quality of our lives.

Change in Perception: perception is not something that sensory organs perform. Perception is performed in the brain and the purpose of perception is to allow the brain to update the model of reality. When we learn science, we learn about things that we might have not known or didn’t understand.

Progress: Scientific progress is perhaps the most important fact of today’s society. Nearly every aspect of our daily lives is governed by the advancement and progression of science. Science Education will help us to enhance our personality as well knowledge. Science allows has to learn and understand how the world works.

Lots of career paths: Science stream opens a whole new world of opportunities for the ones who are ready to work hard with dedication for their career. The stream is not only limited up to a doctor or an engineer. There are several exciting career opportunities like data science, geology, education, research, pharmacy, software designing, mathematician, etc.

‘The study of science helps to nourishes and develop curiosity in young minds and makes them think about solutions to challenges in everyday life. Its relevance in a pandemic-afflicted world has only grown. It was important to sense-check what science teachers felt about how their subject needed to evolve,’ said Sivaramakrishnan Venkateswaran, Managing Director – Oxford University Press India.

He further added that ‘We are glad that Science teachers from India strongly participated in our survey and their faith that the current curriculum is helping students to become scientifically literate and active citizens.’

Amid lockdown, Children are not getting practical knowledge and science is all about experiments. This lack of practical work may impact their science knowledge.

Teachers surveyed believe that the core purpose of science education should be inspiring, science is many about exploring, curiosity, and experiments. The most important goal of education to give a proper understanding of science and prepare them for more challenging activities and future projects.
