Governor Purohit has awarded 71 medals to National level rank holders

In the 2nd National Convocation Ceremony of NIEPMD –NBER 2019, Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu Shri. Bhanwarilal Purohit has awarded 71 medals to National level rank holders of special education and rehabilitation personnel graduating from various Rehabilitation Courses recognised by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

4946 Students from 327 Teacher Training Institutes across India has graduated in various Rehabilitation Courses of 13 Diploma& Certificate level specialising in areas like Intellectual Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Multiple Disabilities, Prosthetic and Orthotics engineering, care giving etc.

While delivering Chief Guestaddress, Hon’ble Governor has opined expectation that these Rehabilitation Personnel will have a noble but still a challenging role to play in Empowering the individuals with Special needs (Divyangjan)in the areas of early intervention, education, training, therapy, community living and skilling for making the concept of “Inclusive & Empowered Society” a reality.

Ms. TCA Kalyani, Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India highlighted ensuring quality of Professional development in disability sector at all levels for each category disability as per the Rights of the Persons with Disability Act,2016.

On delivering the convocation report, the Director, National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Dr. Himangshu Das has mentioned the significant role of RCI in developing curriculum and standardizing the rehabilitation courses by promoting quality education in the field of Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. He also added that NIEPMD, Chennai apart from offering 19 HRD courses is continuously working on providing quality training and Education across the country through National Board for Examination in Rehabilitation (NBER) an adjuct body of RCI.

The convocation was declared opened by eminent Social worker in the field of Disability Rehabilitation Shri Sankara Raman; and concluded by Eminent International scholar in the field of Disability Studies Dr. Jayanthi Narayan.

Government of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, through its National Institutes and Composite Regional Center for Rehabilitation and Skilling of Divyangjans, aspires to bridge the gap of rehabilitation need and services requirement in the disability sector.
