SOUL’18: an Inter –Collegiate Literary Feast at HCAS

Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Prof and Head of School of Tamil and Cultural Studies TNOU, Chennai, was the honorary guest in the recent Soul ’18 Inter- collegiate Literary Festival of Department of Languages held at HCAS ground recently. The event consist of poetry writing, elocution, folk song in Tamil, short stories in Hindi and French, solo singing and Arabic essay writing. The occasion was started with prayer and the song of college Choir.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. M. Thenkarai Maharaja Pillai, Head of Languages.  As he welcomed all and spoke on significance of this event, he mentioned about Chief Guest Dr. Balasubramanian’s achievements.  The felicitation address was given by the Principal Dr.S.Thirumagan who spoke on the importance of language in communication.  He even mentioned on Mahakavi Kalidas and his contribution to languages and recited his poem, emphasizing messages of communication in languages,  its significance in the society from the past to present.

Director Dr. Susan Marthandon, welcomed Chief Guest and thanking the principal for having a good atmospheric environment at HCAS. While the Dean of Humanities Mrs. Sakthi Prabha introduces the guest speaker highlighting his achievements. The guest speaker said, “ through languages, we can achieve many things and he cited a motivational story of Neil Armstrong of Apollo mission of USA and his achievement”. Opportunity comes only once and a person has to make use of it to excel in his career or job he said. He outlined vanuances of language use and wished the program a success as he ended.

Dr. T Seetharaman Assistant Professor of Dept. of Languages proposed vote of thanks, thanking Director Dr. Susan Marthandon, Deputy Director Dr. VJ Philip, Prinicpal Dr. S Thirumagan and more importantly the Chief Guest Dr.S.Balasubramanian. Dean in charge of humanities Mrs. Sakthi Prabha, staff of Language Dept. and students for making this occasion a great success.
