Elections 2019 or 1977?

The largest democracy of the world is in the process of conducting the general elections, the focus is on the rivalry between BJP and Indian National Congress. In 2014 BJP formed the government with the most number of majority in the lower house, in a country whose governance was fully dependent on the collision type of government and BJP with Narendra Damodar Das Modi as the election face was successful to defeat INC (Congress) after their two consecutive terms.

After the Emergency in the year 1977 general elections took place and the first Non-Congress government was formed under the leadership of Morarji Desai the reason behind the defeat of Indra Gandhi was because of her decision for a national emergency, the press was dominated at the time of emergency and everyone saw a kind of dictatorship at that time.

The country was united for one political party once again in the year 2014 and we all noticed a so-called ‘Modi Wave’. Prime Minister Modi convinced the people that the last government was not good enough to govern which was true, the second term of the UPA government brought a bag full of corruption and scam cases for which the mass decided to choose Narendra Modi as our next P.M.

The Modi government is using the social media and the electronic media as its main campaigning tool for the general elections, the print media is still out of their reach because of some editors like N.Ram. Narendra Modi is the first prime minister of this country who has not conducted any press conference in the past five years which means he can not be questioned directly or in other words from the last five years there has only been a linear way of communication with our prime minister.

Cases like Raphael were not being considered at all until the editorial from ‘The Hindu’ and when the supreme court asked for the Raphael deal file which was refused to publicly announce because of National Security the defense minister of our country stated that the file was stolen from the defense ministry. The farmer protest which took place on 29-30 November was least noticed by the center, there are many loopholes in this government may that be the total failure of demonetization or the corruption charges on Jai Shah and the main problem is our opposition is also not good enough and the 4th pillar of Democracy is already under the check of the government.

We have to go through each and every work done by this government and we have to raise questions we are living in a democracy it’s our fundamental right. Like 1977, the 2019 election is also to save the democratic nature of this nation.
