Irregularities that have taken place in promotions from lower to higher ranks are now bothering the employees of a prominent public sector bank.

According to sources, more than 150 employees of Dena Bank are said to have not been promoted though they have the required eligibility conditions.

An employee from the public sector bank on the condition of anonymity said interviews took place in the recent past for promoting employees of scale four to five, scale five to six and scale six to seven.

The results were declared on 30 March, and they came as a shock to many of us, said the employee. Guidelines to be considered while promoting employees in public sector banks seems to not have been adhered to.

One of the guideline is for being eligible to get promoted to scale five the candidate should have been a branch head for atleast three years, but this guideline seems to have not been followed while giving promotions to the employees.

Many who were promoted did not have the required experience as a branch head. Another guideline says minimum period of service required as an officer is 12 years if one is to be promoted to scale five, this also seems to have not been adhered to, said the employee. These are among those guidelines that were not followed while promoting employees of Dena Bank recently.

A candidate was promoted twice successively and both times the existing guidelines for promotions were relaxed, said the employee speaking further on discrepancies in the promotions. Lateron, it was known the candidate had been in the good books of then CMD of Dena Bank. Promotion guideline are relaxed only when there is a lack of sufficiently qualified candidates. However, the guidelines appear to be relaxed despite the availability of well qualified candidates in sufficient numbers.

Bank Of India (BOI)
If the promotion irregularities have managed to rock Dena Bank employees, a similar such things are said to have taken place in Bank of India. Sources say irregularities are said to have taken place with regards to promotion of employees from scale four to five.

While there is Circular No 41112011-IR dated 14/3/2012 by Financial Services Wing of Union Finance Ministry as per which guidelines for promoting employees are formed, the promotions in BOI are said to have not taken place according to them.

Sources further say CEO of BOI Deenbandhu Mohapatra and his group are said to have been behind these promotion irregularities. They have been done with the purpose of enhancing their earnings. The list of bank personnel promoted was brought out on 1 June this year and lot of irregularities are said to have been noticed in the list.

The list of promotion is said to have been prepared based on online interviews. Officers from various other wings of the bank also became a part of the promotion list along with those who were promoted from scale four to scale five.

Sources further say, personnel close to Mohapatra have managed to find place in the list. Added to this, many others candidates are said to have been included in the list after taking good amount of money from them. All these events  show the greater need of alertness on our authorities so that these wrong doings can be brought down.
