Decreasing population of Indian cows is not good sign: S.P. Gupta

The population of cows in India is dwindling day-by-day especially that of the Indian cow.This is a negative sign as far as our safe agricultural production, public health, rural economy and climate change is concerned. In order to satisfactorily address this situation, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has modified and brought amendments to the ongoing schemes and programs on animal welfare in order to incorporate measures for the proper care and management of stray and homeless animals in the country. In this connection, the AWBI chairman,Mr. S. P. Gupta has said that animals particularly bovines i.e. cows and canines have been abandoned by their owners. He said all the amended schemes such as the Gochar Land Vikas, financial assistance for rescued animals, maintenance of stray animals and health care facilities (Ambulance and helpline facilities) of the board will be implemented soon.

Emphasizing the issue he said,‘To protect these animals and to create a peaceful and safe environment for them, I have decided to meet the Chief Ministers of each and every state of the country.’ Walking the talk, he has recently met the CM of Uttarakhand, Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat. In this meeting,the two men discussed on the Gochar Bhumi Vikas, prevention of cruelty against animals and self-sufficiency of the Gaushala by producing panchgavya medicines. He has also discoursed on the effective functioning of all the district SPCAs and SAWB. He even met yog-guru Baba Ramdev so as to discuss and contemplate on several issues and their worthwhile solutions.
