Sanjay Dutt-Bollywood’s Bad Boy

“I keep the bad-boy imagine just to make my fans happy”, Sanjay Dutt was born on 29 July 1959, to the most well-known actors of that time- Sunil Dutt and Nargis. Rocky, was his debut movie, produced by his father, Sunil Dutt in the year 1981 which was a box-office hit. Unfortunately his mother, Nargis with whom he was deeply attached passed away just a few days before the premiere due to a prolonged illness. This tragic event opened a new window of drug addiction.

Sanjay Dutt gained a lot of popularity from his films such as Naam and Sadak and along with that, he was titled as the conventional soft hero for his role in Saajan which was the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1991. And in 1993 Khalnayak became a blockbuster and the second-hight-grossing movie. Dutt became a crowd favorite until he was accused of the involvement in the 1933 Bombay bomb blast and a processor of an unlicensed gun.

He made his comeback in Bollywood with Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Vastav: the Reality, Khoobsurat, and Mission Kashmir. His role in Mission Kashmir was critical acclaim and won him a number of awards and nominations. To date, his best performance is seen in Vatav: the Reality, which won him his first Filmfare Best Actor.

In 1996 a documentary directed by Chris Rodley titled To Hell and Back was about the tumultuous journey of Sanjay Dutt and his arrest of the 1993 bomb blast. This documentary consisted of interviews with Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Dutt, Marata Kumar Dutt, and other film journalists as well. In the year 2018 Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt was based on the life events of Dutt. Sanju was highly favored by the audience and in the same year author Yasser Usman published a biographical book on Dutt, titled Sanjay Dutt: The Crazy Untold Story of Bollywood’s Bad Boy.

Apart from all the roles played in these hit movies, the 3 movies starring Sanjay Dutt went unnoticed. First, of them is Parineeta starring Saif Ali Khan and Vidhya Balan in lead. Sanjay Dutt played the role of Girish Kumar, which went unnoticed by the audience. Later Dutt played the role of a cop in 2014, Ugli, despite his marvelous acting and commitment to the character, the role was underrated. In the same year, he was seen playing the role of Bhairon Singh in the movie PK. Due to the huge star cast, his role went unnoticed. Though his comical dancing in the song ‘Tharki Chokhro’ from PK gained the audience’s attention. Torbaaz director Girish Malik shared his experience working with Sanjay Dutt, stating “People had told me that shooting with Sanjay Dutt would be tough and problematic, but there was no trouble at all.”

The upcoming projects of Sanjay Dutt are K.G.F Chapter 2, Shamshera, Prithviraj, and Bhuj: the Pride of India. Even after the release of numerous box office hit films, Dutt is still recognized for his role in Vaatav and Munnabhai series. Munnabhai: M.B.B.S gave the audience the on-screen father-son goals, the role of the was played by Sunil Dutt.
