Did the idea of starting your own company take over you? Do you want to know how that is to be accomplished? Incubation centre at IIT-Madras (Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, IIT-M) is the place to be approached to know how to go about setting our own company.
Rural Technology and Business Incubation Centre (RTBI) started to give a boost to ‘Startup India,’ the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has so far provided a launch pad to about 180 startup ventures. This number is likely to cross 200 soon, says RTBI CEO Tamasvati Ghosh.
This is the place where an aspiring business person can get everything from technical knowledge to guidance by experienced faculty. ‘We even help with investment required to take the products to the market’ says Tamasvati. There are limits though, so we help with forming industry partnerships.
Industry partnership can get the market for the product or a buyer who will take over the product. The objective of RTBI is clear, promote entrepreneurship while research and development focused on enhancing social betterment also receives a fillip.
There are a couple of success stories too. Reputed establishments are using the innovations brought out by startup companies boosted by ITBR. Sensors, drones and robots are being used by Southern Railway.

We are using it for track and bridge maintenance on a trial basis. They will check the bridges, tracks and send the feedback to the personnel in the monitoring centre.

Repair works can be initiated at once, should these machines detect a defect, said General Manager of Southern Railway R K Kulshrestha.
Another startup came up with a robot that could enter into the sewerage and clean them. Usage of these machines can prevent loss to human life which occurs while cleaning them.
Another startup is doing research on coming out with a machine that could be used to send help to ships stuck in the mid ocean, says Tamasvati Ghosh.
Currently this machine is under trials, post that, intentions is to put it to larger use. Experienced hands work with entrepreneurial aspirants, this helps bring out fine products, betters the prospects for success, she says.
